Carlos on Stinger after Breeders Cup Trial
I’m sure many of you had your expectations for Breeders Cup and of course we had at the stable as well for our boy Stinger. He hardly had a 3-year old season, so of course Breeders was high on his tick-of-list for his 4-year old season.
The day came and anticlimax occured! When the stalls opened there wasn’t any Stinger – well there was, but he was app. 5-6 lenghts behind the rest of the field, to what I would think, everyones amazement.
I’m sure a lot of people like me, had anticipated that it would be a battle of the giants, like it was in Breeders Trial between him and Karmastrikesback (Karma won by a nose). That didn’t happen as although Stinger caught up, he was never really “there” so to speak although he did finish 5th. Karmastrikes back had his win and well done him.
So what was the matter with Stinger? He had had a bit of the same problem last time he was out and it was just not like him. A thorough investigation of what could be the problem was called for after Breeders Cup.
A lot of tests were taken and showed nothing until the examination for stomach ulcers was done – and we hit jackpot so to speak. Stinger has a very serious case of those, which is of course very painful. So explanation found.
So now he is on medication to treat the problem and the it’s going to be a bit of a race to get him ready in time for Scandinavian Open Championship (Gr. 3) Saturday the 6th. August and after that Breeders Trophy Stayer in Bro Park in September.
It’s going to be exciting to see him out on 2400 m, as he has always been believed to be perfect for that. So hopefully it’s now onwards and upwards for the big boy.
