Form, My Autobiography – Kieren Fallon

January 31st, 2018 · No Comments · Books, England, Irland

I’ve only just finished this book today and it was a very pleasant listen, read by Frank Grimes. I think I’ve said it before, I don’t read books anymore, I listen them and I love that opporunity. I imagine it would be a great solution for many of you guys too. You can listen to most of these solutions on your computer, tablet or phone, so what’s not to like? Anway, on to Kieren’s book.

We’re taken to Kierens childhood in Ireland. A fairly humble childhood. Some might even call it poor, but they never lacked anything. As I read it they had a good childhood but as the case often is in circumstances like them – without much time for anyting but duties and work. Sadly there’s a could on the sky here, as Kierean sadly lost a sister. Very sad and something that of course had a big impact on him as well as the rest of the family.

We’re taken to the start of his carrer where he quickly showed a lot of talent and on to riding for Sir Henry Cecil, Coolmore and Sir Michael Stoute and of course races all over the world.

And then there’s the court cases not to forget, oh we must not forget the court cases. Most of them so ridicilous you can’t help but laugh.

But if there’s something that this book left me with it’s the fact that being a world famous jockey (or anything) is not without huge sacrifices and cost in the long run. I’m not talking about money here, although it could be that too (court cases). He certainly has been through the wars in a lot ways. The breakdown of his marriage and trouble with alcohol and not least the depression that put an end to his career.

I came to like Kieren very much, not least because of his thoughts about the horses are identical to my view of them and in all he just comes across as a very genuine and nice guy and here not least very honest. I would most certainly highly recommend this book for a read or a listen, whatever you prefer.
